After seven semesters on the Word, editor retires from journalistic work

by María Salvador

This issue of the newspaper is the last one this semester. I want to thank our readers for their critiques and support to the newspaper, for collaborating with us and helping us improve. The Word definitely appreciates hearing from you what we are doing well and where we are lacking, so we can serve you better.

In the semesters to come, I hope you keep reading the paper, commenting on what you read, contributing story ideas and upholding the opinion page as the community discussion forum it is meant to be.

Secondly, I would like you to join me in welcoming Marisa Keller and Rosa Ostrom as the new top editors. Both Marisa and Rosa are hardworking students who are committed to the paper. They have gone to great lengths to make this paper the best they can for you to enjoy. They have ample experience with the Word and are ready to take on this challenge and make this paper an excellent one. Without a doubt, they will succeed.

I would also like to thank the staff of The Earlham Word for yet another awesome semester and for giving their best to this team project. Working for the Word can be overwhelming at times, but our staff is always cheerful and ready to help.

Finally, I encourage all of you to join the Word or collaborate in any way you can. It is a very good learning experience that reaches beyond teaching journalistic skills; it teaches you accountability and gives you the chance to work with an excellent group of people.

All good things come to an end, and this is it for me. I have been working for the Word for seven semesters now, two of them as editor in chief. It is always sad to let go of something so dear to one’s heart, but it is about time to do so.

It has been my pleasure to work with and for you all.
