Mind of an athlete: Alex Anderson

by Bryant Foreman

Senior baseball player Alex Anderson comes from Logansport, Ind. In high school he both played baseball and swam, and he has excelled in baseball at Earlham for four years. Last year he was the team’s most valuable player, leading the team with a 3.96 earned run average (ERA). He also showed off the wood (or aluminum, in the case of college baseball), by hitting .280 with nine doubles and 11 runs batted in. So far this year, he has set a career high with four wins and hopes to add more in his final week playing college baseball.

EW (Earlham Word): Why did you choose to come to Earlham?

AA (Alex Anderson)
: I was told that I would start as a freshman for baseball, so I came for baseball.

EW
: What is your favorite kind of music? What bands do you like?

AA
: I like any music that sounds good really: whatever other people are listening to.

EW
: If you had a choice to spend a day with any major league baseball player, who would it be and why?

AA
: To be honest, I would rather hang out with myself and play video games, because I don’t take steroids and therefore I don’t think we would have anything in common to talk about.

EW
: What is your favorite food?

AA
: Any non-Saga food.

EW
: What one other sport would you play if you didn’t play baseball and why?

AA
: Lacrosse, because it would be fun to throw the ball at other people “on accident.”

EW
: If you could purchase any car you wanted, what would it be?

AA
: A hovercraft.

EW
: What are your plans after graduation?

AA
: Working for my community pool and then job-searching for a real job.

EW
: What is your least favorite thing about Earlham?

AA
: So many stupid papers that are graded based on the professor’s opinion.

EW
: What was your most embarrassing moment while attending Earlham?

AA
: It would definitely have to be walking in on someone in a stall while they were pooping but they forgot to lock the door.

EW
: What has been your most memorable moment while playing baseball at EC?

AA
: The 3-run homer I had at Centre College this year, of course. First one I ever had and probably the last, haha!

Anderson is off to a good start again this year with a .362 batting average. He also hopes to add on to his personal win record, and  is scheduled to start on the mound tomorrow against  Denison at McBride Stadium for senior day.  The first pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
